My project on Op Art by Nadia

Op Art is also known as optical art. It is a style that makes use of optical illusion. It is a method of painting, interaction between illusion and picture plane. Op art works are abstract, with many of the better known pieces made in only black and white. When the viewer looks at them, the impression is given of movement, hidden images, flashing and vibration, patterns, or alternatively.

Bridget Riley was born in London. She was educated at Cheltenham Ladies' College. She studied art first at Goldsmiths College, and later at the Royal College of Art, where her fellow students included artists Peter Blake and Frank Auerbach. She started painting op art around 1960. It was during this time that Riley began to paint the black and white works for which she is well known.
